080 in the shade on a fine day
Finalist, Concentrico festival - picnic in the vineyard
Collaboration with Malgorzata Maria Olchowska.
To have a picnic, you have to find the right spot, with the pleasant amount of sun, shade and a view. On the ground, on a plateau or on a table. Under a tree or a canopy.
For the festival, we propose a colourful landmark that stands in contrast to the colours of the ter- rain. It is something that draws your attention from far. On the long stretch of land the tall object acts like a beacon that offers a place for respite and congregation.
A festival is a celebration, it is also essentially a break from the routine life. For a few days, we raise the flag and signal to people, friends and families to come together. We set the table halfway onto the road, as gesture of interruption and invitation to anyone, also passers-by, to sit down with us. The proposal is positioned 600m from the start of the central path, 600m to the end and approx- imately 300m from the river to the east and west. Situated in the middle point of the vineyard, it offers a sense of the size of the field.
The installation is a colourful composition of surfaces- prompting people to use it differently. Here one finds a plateau, a table or shade to have a meal and a drink, or simply to sit down and look towards the land. The canopy directs the view towards the field of vines and the landscape at a distance. The vertical brise-soleil is an eye-catcher but it also offers shade around it that changes in the course of the day.
Although it is a colourful installation, it aims to direct one’s attention to the ground, to the land and to the sky. The installation calls for the celebration of people coming together for food, drinks and conversation. It also invites people to contemplate upon our connection to the land and climate.
